[Article] How can we source wood?

Do you need beautifull planks with inspiring patterns to make instruments, toys or jewellery?
	When you are in town, go rummaging through bins, especially on bulky waste collection days or pretty much any time between blocks of flats (people moving house) ;
	have a chat with the park maintenance staff and gardeners. Just saying.
	When you are in the countryside, gather fallen branches from the ground, hunt for treasures in your firewood pile.
	Finally, cut them into small planks using a froe (or, if you don’t have one, use an axe and a drawknife – which is what I do), then plane them down. And, of course, if you have a bandsaw or a table saw, it might be easier…
	In any case, let your planks dry slowly for at least a few months!

Here is a lovely theme for a cotillion, a dance that was popular in the 18th century. It can of course be used for other contradances, with a 4×8 then 6×8 steps structure.

A few days alone at home allowed me to begin recording the album I want to dedicate to this cute cheap instrument. It's a little garmon (also called garmoshka), a diatonic and unisonoric button accordion. I'll add other instruments later (violin…) but Here is the recording of the garmon for the first two tracks (together in 1 file). 1. The Cuckoo (trad) 2. Sussex Cotillion (trad) / Fashion Cotillion (by yours truly). I hope you'll like it!

[Archives] The first JavaScript flute hole calculator

Copy and translation of Pete Kosel's old website (late 1990s), containing advice on making flutes out of plastic pipes and, above all, Flutomat, a JavaScript programme based on Peter L. Hoekje's spreadsheet, which made it possible to design the dimensions of a flute simply in a web browser. Since then, this script has been used, adapted and improved in numerous ‘flutomats’ and other ‘calculators’, both online and offline.

Inspired by a version from Quebec (Gaspésie), based on Marguerite and Raoul d'Harcourt's collection ‘Chansons folkloriques françaises au Canada’ (French Folk Songs in Canada) - 1956. Here we propose a minor key version of the melody, in the manner to the one recorded by the group Ellébore on their LP ‘Chansons et danses d'Anjou et de Vendée’ (Songs and Dances from Anjou and Vendée) - 1978.

[Transcription] J'ai fait l'amour (1)

"I made love to a brunette". Some French songs begin with these lyrics (I have seen occurrences on books and web from France, Belgium, Quebec, and Louisiana). It is usually the story of a lover rejected by his brunette (this time, exceptionally, she is blonde). After Jean Ritz's collection, from the Alps « Les chansons populaires de la Haute-Savoie » - 1910.
